About the event

Roost Arts Hudson Valley is thrilled to announce If Not in the World, Then in Each Other : Hudson Valley Artists on Collective Survival, a group exhibition curated by Chelsea Herzig featuring Melany Garcia Mercedes, David Held, Cynthia R. Dill, Aleksandra Scepanovic, Nancy Yang, Suprina Troche, Mona Karami, Chenyan Wang, and Nicole Jurain. Opening June 20 and running through July 11, 2026, If Not in the World, Then in Each Other will be on view as part of Upstate Art Weekend, a yearly celebration of contemporary art and culture throughout the Hudson Valley.

Much of the work showcased in If Not in the World, Then in Each Other represents artists grappling with what it means to belong in uncertain times. Themes of displacement, migration, memory, identity, climate and environmental change, invisible and unacknowledged labor, resilience, and care for oneself and one another highlight each artist’s practice.

Inspired by a quote from Hmong American writer Kao Kalia Yang, If Not in the World, Then in Each Other brings together Hudson Valley artists whose work explores displacement, migration, memory, identity, environmental change, labor, resilience, and care. Through sculpture, installation, painting, textiles, printmaking, and assemblage, the exhibition considers how individuals and communities navigate uncertainty while creating spaces of refuge, connection, and collective survival.

Exhibition runs June 20–July 11, 2026
