Laura Phillips
Laura Phillips is a fairly recent Gardiner transplant, originally from Long Island, N.Y. She has been in love with the area for the past 25 years, after discovering the beauty and appeal of the Shawangunk Mountains during a weekend stay at Mohonk. Laura has a BFA in design from The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), and a Masters degree from Queens College. After working briefly as a designer, she became an art educator at a public school on Long Island where she taught art for 30 years. Laura now spends her days making art in her studio called “Spirit’s Nest”, and outside in nature where she is always inspired. For most of her life she has been creating various forms of art as well as writing poetry. Having always been drawn to nature, her love of plants and wildlife call her to connect to the natural world both artistically and spiritually. She enjoys exploring the use of various media to express this connection. Living in this mountain paradise provides her with a constant motivation to be creative. Her artwork and poetry reflect her very personal relationship with Mother Earth.
