David Holt
Artist Statement
His paintings explore urban environments through imagery drawn from linocuts and photographs of Newburgh, New York, New York City, and other cities throughout the region. Influenced by Russian Constructivism and both analytical and synthetic Cubism, Holt creates structured, layered compositions that reflect the rhythm, geometry, and energy of city life. David is the author of “The search for Aesthetic Meaning in the Visual Arts” and is inspired by danger and decay. He is drawn to deteriorated buildings and lonely, dangerous suburbs. He uses vibrant colors and unconventional shapes to bring spirit and balance to his gloomy subject matter.
